Crete Vacation

This summer we were on Crete for vacation. I've been learning a bit about photography and my Sony Alpha 6000 lately, and took the opportunity to practice while on holidays. I also ported my website/blog from Jekyll to Hugo, and decided to post photos more often, both to use my blog and also as an incentive for my photography work.

Ruins of the palace of Knossos — The ruins of the over 3500 year old palace of Knossos. Parts had been rebuild during the first excavations.

Ruins of a house — Heraklion is a mix of regular houses with ruins or abandoned houses in between.

Bay of Agios Nikolaos — The bay of Agios Nikoloas. If you can see it while having lunch, you're probably paying too much for your food.

A cat between bamboo — While taking a break in a park in Rethymno, I found a small tiger in a bamboo forest.

A cicada — Cicadas have been everywhere and where annoyingly loud.

A building shell — A common sight in Crete are building shells of houses that are probably never going to be finished.

Cowrie shells — One of the best catches while snorkeling where two beautiful cowrie shells.

A cactus flower — A beautiful cactus flower.

Preveli gorge — The gorge of Preveli is beautiful, and a bit less crowded than the beach.

We first stayed in Heraklion in the north and from there visited the palace of Knossos and Agios Nikolaos and Spinalonga in the east. The second half we stayed in the south in Plakias, a small town where I was often as a child. We went by bus to Rethymno for one day and to Preveli, but mostly relaxed on the beach and snorkeled.
